In the artist’s own words:
I am Priyanka, born and brought up in a beautiful coastal town in the western part of India called Ratnagiri. In 2005 I moved to the financial capital – Mumbai for higher education & work and spent 14 years in this busy city. Since the last 2 years I have been in Europe, spent 6 months in Ireland and currently living in the Netherlands.
My art is hugely inspired by elements of nature and the places I have been to – their landscapes , history and architecture! The intricate folk art forms from India , Celtic designs from Ireland and art nouveau style that I came across while travelling in Riga especially have a great influence on my art style. My work is free spirited , fantastical and an outlet for my wish to instil the experience of calmness and bliss in the viewers.
I specialise in Acrylic on canvas and I focus on making paintings that spread positivity by simply using cheerful elements or bright colours that symbolise natural beauty, calmness and inner peace. I also enjoy working with Water colours.
Hide & Seek with Art
My art journey started right from my childhood .My father was my first art teacher who sowed in me the love for painting since I was a child. I have participated in numerous art competitions ever since. The first time I took formal art lessons was from my art teacher in school and secured good grades in the Elementary and Intermediate exams instituted by the Art Directorate of the Government of Maharashtra. Due to certain family situations, I did not pursue further education in art, instead opted for an engineering degree to secure a job in IT and financially support my family.
After settling in and a gap of almost 5 years without painting, I resumed creating art when my spouse gifted me an easel on my birthday. That was the turning point -
